Hi, Mr. Lim!!! I'm a student from 103. My name is Ng Jun Siang Rodericks. My register number is 30. HeHe (>,<)...... This is a nice method of letting students do their assignments but for people like me with my computer a little shocked shocked one so it's better to do it on a piece of PAPER...HAHAZ (*.*)!!! BYE BYE
Refer to the Slide below. What is/are your observation about the differences between the two type of natural vegetation?
My observations are that the temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforest have evergreen leaves and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips.
Another difference is that the temperate deciduous forest form 3 distinct layers: canopy, shrubs and smaller trees, and forest floor, while the tropical rainforest form 3 distinct layers but different ones from the temperate deciduous forest: emergent, canopy and undergrowth.
I have no more time to continue so I'll do it again someday.
Ok. First thing, i didn't know that Hex's eyesight was that good until he could see the drip tips on the leaves... man...
My observations are that the temperate deciduous forest has tree that are not packed closely together while tropical rainforest has a variety of plants and trees on the diffrent levels:emergent, canopy and the undergrowth, on what i see as a hill.
And because i dont refer to the top slides, the temperate deciduous forest forms two distinct layers, the canopy and the smaller shrubs, thus forming a 'gap' which is an empty area only occupied by the trunks of the canopy. This is further enlarged by the leaves that fall of in the winter.
The tropical rainforest now forms a densely packed area of land as the smaller trees are packed closely togetherwith the higher ones forming the canopy. And being evergreen, any tree that falls will be instantly replaced by the younger trees below.
For the second picture, was it done by you? Cause its pretty obvious that the person who did it copied and pasted it there, its not that i want to insult the person but he/she could have done more to enhance the reality of the picture. It could have been done by reducing the alpha brightness to make it as grey as the background shown. And not using anti-alising would have caused the picture below to look out of place by the jagged edges. The program can be found on most windows computers as picture editor.
Oh yeah the answer is that is not possible for the cactuses and sunflowers to grow in the temperate deciduous forest in winter. (again, i apologise sorely to the person who i might have insulted above)
HI. I am Tommy Yuen from 104. Firstly, although thae slides are all in point forms, it is still quite wordy. It could be boring sometimes for a reader.
Secondly, the questions should not just be picture-questions. There should be some structured questions. Other than that, it is ok.
I am Lew Hui Ling(10) from 104 -My observations are that the temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforest have evergreen leaves and have broad waxy leaves.
Q1)The temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforest have evergreen leaves and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips.
Another difference is that the temperate deciduous forest form 3 layers: the canopy, shrubs and smaller trees, and forest floor, while the tropical rainforest also form 3layers but different form the one temperate deciduous forest: emergent, canopy and undergrowth.
Q2)It is quite impossible to have cactus or sunflowers to grow in the snow as they are not adapted to that kind of climate.
My Observation : In Photo A,the trees in the forest is lest dense. The trees are also identical. While the forest in Photo B is dense and has a variety of trees. The Photo A's forest is more clearcut than forest in photo B as the layers are displayed clearly.
The Mistake : The Sunflower are only able to grow in countries near the equater as there is usually sunlight all around the year but in the picture,it is impossible for the sunflower to grow in such a cold place where there is almost no sunlight. The cacti is grown in snowy place where there is a large amount of water. That is impossible too as the cactus can only be grown on deserts where there is less rainfall.
Good morning. This is Kai Ean (G0077030U) from 101 here, register number 40.
Q1)The trees in the temperate deciduous forest are less densely packed than the rainforest.
The trees in the temperate deciduous forest in photograph A grow at the foot of the mountain while the trees of the tropical rainforest in photo B grow along the curve of what looks like a hill.
The trees of the forest in A do not vary much in height but the rainforest in photo b does.
2)Cacti are adapted to survive in environments where the temperature are higher, such as deserts. They are not adapted to temperate environments where the change of seasons are present as winter's temperatures are near 0, which is a temperature range which the cactus is not adapted to.
Sunflowers, if i am not mistaken, only grow in spring. However, according to the background, snow is present. Therefore it is winter.
My observations are that the temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves and the forest has only a few varities of trees and tropical rainforest has evergreen leaves, trees grow close together and their crowns interlock to form a canopy and contains a wide variety of plants.
The mistake in the picture is that sunflowers and cactus cannot survive in snow Aas the weather is too harsh for them to survive.
Q1.My observations are that the temperate deciduous forests grow on a hill while the tropical rainforest grow on something like a swamp.
Another observation is that the trees of the temperate deciduous forests grow in a neat manner such that they form the canopy and followed by other smaller trees. As for the tropical rainforest, the trees vary in height compared to the trees in picture A.
Q2. The sunflowers and the cacti are not adapted to the cold climate shown in the picture.Sunflowers only grow in places where there are enough sunlight and water. The picture shows that there is not enough sunlight as the place is quite dark.Cacti are adapted to hot-weather places such as the desert. However there is snow in the picture so it is also a mistake.
The temperate deciduous Forest is not as densely packed as tempearate coniferous forests. The trees of the temperate deciduous forests form three distinct layers canopy, shrubs and smaller trees, and forest floors. The temperate deciduous Forest also have three or four variety of trees while the temperate coniferous trees have one variety of trees.
Refer to the Slide below. What is/are your observation about the differences between the two type of natural vegetation?
My obsevation is that- ->in the tropical rainforests, the trees and other plants grow very close to one another, making the forest very dense. Temperate deciduous forests are not very dense. The trees do not grow as closely as the trees in the tropical rainforests. ->The trees in tropical rainforests are evergreen, meaning that the all leaves of the trees do not drop off at a specific time of the year, while for the temperate deciduous forests, the appearence of the leaves changes with the seasons. This is beacause the production of chlorophyll, which gives leaves its green colour, slows down and eventually stops as the leaves are shed in autumn. ->The trees and other plants in tropical rainforests form 3 distinct layers - the Emergent,Canopy and Undergrowth. As for the temperate deciduous forests, in also consits of 3 layers, however, they are - Top layer(Canopy),the second layer is made up of shrubs and smaller trees. the forest floor, the third layer, is made up of grasses, mosses, ferns. -> There are many different types of plants growing in the tropical rainforests, while in the temperate deciduous forests, there's only 3 or 4 variesties of plants growing within an area.
Q1) The trees in Tropical rainforest are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips while the trees in Temperate decidous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in the autumn.
The second difference is that Tropical rainforest forms three instinct layers which are emergent, canopy and undergrowth. For Temperate decidous forest, it forms three instinct layers which are emergent, canopy and undergrowth.
Q2) It is impossible for the cacti and sunflowers to grow in the winter. The cacti can only grow in places where there are little rainfall and higher temperature such as hot desserts. As for the sunflower, it is only able to grow in places around the equator where there is sufficient sunlight all year round.
1)-The tropical rainforests have trees that are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves, while the temperate deciduous forests also have broad leaves but it change colors and fall off in autumn. -The three distinct layers of the tropical rainforest are emergent, canopy and undergrowth, while the three distinct layers of temperate deciduous forest are canopy, shrubs and smaller trees.
2)-Sunflowers and cacti will not grow in temperate deciduous forests in winter.
(ps. i forgot to do question 2 in my earlier post)
It is impossible for cactus and sunflowers to grow during winter as during winter, the weather is very cold and many plants cannot survive in the cold weather, thus it is not possible for them to be in that climate.
hello mr lim this is niketa from class 104 i would like to say that your slides have helped me understand the topic very well.... thank you for takin so much trouble and making these slides for us...
Q1 In photo b the trees are packed closely to each other. the trees are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves. In photo A, the forest is not very dense and the trees are aligned properly. There is also very little variety of plant. The trees also have broad leaves. Q2 cactus and sunflower cannot grow in such places. the cactus lives in the desert and is well adapted to it. if the environment is changed, the plant will die likewise, the sunflower is not a plant that lives in winter climate and if put there, it will die.
The picture in A shows a temperate deciduous forest with evergreen trees that have broad waxy leaves with drip tips and you can see clearly that the trees grow very close to one another .The three distinct layers-canopy, shrubs and smaller leaves can be seen clearly in the picture .While in picture B, the tropical rainforest form three distinct layers-emergent ,canopy and undergrowth. In question 2, there is a mistake as sunflowers and cacti cannot not grow in temperate deciduous forests in winter.
Hi Mr Lim! I am Na Xiao Shuang(13) From 104. My observation are that the Aspen Forest is not very dense, the tree did not grow as closely together. It has only three to four varities of trees. The trees and the other plants in the tropical forest grow very close together, this makes the forest very dense. The trees in the tropical forest is taller than the tree in the Aspen Forest. The mistake is that the cactus and the sunflower cannot grow together, as cactus exist in places that recieve little rainfall, while the sunflower are found in places that recieve moderate rainfall. Both cannot survive in the snow as the weather is not suitable for them.
1) the trees in the aspen forest are of different sizes the brazil rainforest has a swamp and there is a great variety of vegetation there 2) the sunflowers will not be able to suvive in a dessert as it is far too dry and warm for them. only the cacti will be able to survive as they are adapted to living in these harsh conditions.
My observation is that for tropical rainforest trees, the trees have evergreen and broad waxy leaves. Also, they grow very close to one another. for the temperate deciduous forests, the trees are not very close, and tehy form three distinct layers: canopy, shrubs, smaller trees and forest floor.
Question two:
I think there shoudn't be any cactus and sunflowers growing there as it seems to be not much sunlight there.
Refer to the Slide below. What is/are your observation about the differences between the two type of natural vegetation?
Q1. I think the Temperate deciduous forest has trees that r more space out the the tropical rainforest which has trees that are closly packed together which causes the trees the to have larger leaves in order to absorb more amount of sunlight compare to the temperate deciduous forest .
Comparing the both forest you can find that the trees in the tempertae deciduous forest is a bit short compare to the overgrown trees in the tropical rainforest which a growin higher to take in the substances needed for photosynthesis in order to produce food.
The layout of the both forest is also different from each other although both of them have 3 layer but as u can see the tropical rainforest has a more distinct layout the canopy, the undergrowth
Refer to the picture in the Slide below. Can you spot the mistake/s? Please explain your observation.
Q2. The mistake in this picture is the it is never possible for the sunflower which nid abundant water and the cactus which is adapted to hot weather to live in a place with a snowy climate. They will not be able to survive as snowy landscape contain little water and is freezing cold which is why it is not even a slightest bit possinble for both of the vegentations to thrive there
For the first question, i notice that tropical rainforest can found in places with a tropical climate, which experience high temperature(20 to 30 degrees Cesius) and high rainfall(1000 to 2000 millimetres) annually. it is mainly located in Amazon Basin in South America, Malaysia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia, and the Congo Basin in Africa. Trees of tropical rainforest are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips. The trees and other plants grow very close to one another. They form three distinct layer: emergent, canopy and undergrowth.
However, for the temperate deciduous forest, is is found in places that experience temperatures ranging from -2 to 18 degreesa Celsius and rainfall ranging from 750 to 1000 millimetres annually. it can found in places like Western Europe and the eastern part of North America. The trees of temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn. The trees form three distinct layers: canopy, shrubs and smaller trees, and forest floor. The appearance of the forest changes with the seasons. the forest is not very dense, and it has only three to four varities of trees.
For the second question, the cactus and the sunflower should not be in the picture because they have adaptations that allows them to survive the desert's hot climate, so they may not be able to survive in the cold climate with their current adaptations. The cold temperature is too coldand harsh for them to survive.
Overall, I think that this method of teaching is very good because it makes the lesson more interesting.
1) My observations about the differences of the two types of natural vegatations are that the temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves while the temperate conniferous forest have leaves that are small and needle like.
Another observation about the difference is that temperate deciduous forest forms three distinctive layers: canopy, shrubs and smaller trees, and forest floor while the temperate conniferous forest forms only one layer of trees with little undergrowth.
2) The mistake is that it is impossible for sunflowers and cactus to grow in cold climate.
My observations are that the temperate deciduous forest have leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforest have evergreen leaves and have waxy leaves with drip tips.
mistake is that the cactus and sunflower are impossible to gronw in the snow
My observations are that the temperated decidous forest do not grow as closely together as the trees in the tropical rainforest. It generally consist of three layers. Decidous tree have broad leaves which cause much water loss. The leaves of many deciduous trees change colours during autumn and eventually fall off and it only has three or four varieties of trees growing within an area.
For tropical rainforests, trees are evergreen. They do not shed all their leaves at a specific time of a year. Many trees in tropical rainforests also have waxy drip tip leaves which are sharply pointed at the tip to allow rainwater to flow off quickly. Leaves of the trees are broad so as to absorb as much sunlight as possible. The trees and other plants grow very close to one another in the tropical rainforests so it is very dense.
2) The mistake is that it is impossible for the sunflower and the catus to grow in the winter.
Firstly, my observations are that the Aspen forest has a variety of tall and also short trees, while the tropical forest in Brazil consists of many different types of trees which may be growing on a hill, thus resulting in the trees having different heights. Also, the Aspen forest is not very dense and the trees are grown in an orderly manner, although it is a natural vegetation. The forest in Brazil has a variety of different trees and the forest is very packed, which means that the trees might have to fight for sunlight.
Secondly, the mistake in the picture is that cactuses and sunflowers cannot grow in the snow, and that they only grow in tropical conditions. They will die if they were to be grown in the snow.
The temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforest have evergreen leaves and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips. The temperate deciduous forests grow on a hill while the tropical rainforest grow on something like a swamp.
The mistakes in the picture is that it is not possible for cactus and sunflower to grow in the snow.
Refer to the Slide below. What is/are your observation about the differences between the two type of natural vegetation?
joey tan [13] from 106 here .
Photo A - temperate forest are located at places with temperate climate . places like this experience seasonal changes . temperate forests are found in places experience temperatures between -2 to 18degrees Celsius and rainfall ranging from 750 to 1000 millimetres annually . The trees have broad leaves tht change colours and fall in autumn . The appearance of the forest changes with the seasons . The forest is not very dense and only has three or four varieties of trees .
Photo B - tropical rainforests are found in tropical climate with places experience high temperature from 20 to 30 degrees celsius and high rainfall ranging fom 1000 to 2000 millimetres annually . Trees there are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips . tress and other plants grow very to each other .
Refer to the picture in the Slide below. Can you spot the mistake/s? Please explain your observation.
the background of the picture shows a place that is experiencing winter , but cautus and sunflower does not grow in winter .
1) My observation is that the trees of Aspen Forest in photograph A is almost of the same height and same kind or trees, while the trees Tropical rainforest in photgraph B have different heights and a variety of trees. 2) Sunflowe and cactus are not suppose to grow during winter.
Refer to the Slide below. What is/are your observation about the differences between the two type of natural vegetation? 1) The trees of the temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves which will change colours with the seasons and will eventually fall off during autumn while the trees of the tropical rainforest are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips. 2) The trees of the temperate deciduous forests form three layers which are canopy, shrubs and trees, and forest floor while the trees of the tropical rainforest forms threee distinct layers which are the emergent, canopy and the undergrowth. 3) The trees of the temperate deciduous forests does not grow very close to each other so the forest is not very dense however the trees of the trees of the tropical rainforest grow very close to each other therefore the forest is dense. 4) The temperate deciduous forests have only three to four varieties of trees while the tropical rainforest have many varieties of trees.
Refer to the picture in the Slide below. Can you spot the mistake/s? Please explain your observation. Its impossible for the cacti n sunflowers to grow in the winter as cacti grows in hot places such as deserts while sumflowers grow in places that is near the equator.
Refer to the Slide below. What is/are your observation about the differences between the two type of natural vegetation?
Ans: My observation states that the temperate dicidous forests have broad leaves that change colour depending on the season. The tropical rainforest on the other hand has broad waxy leaves with drip tips. Another observation i made is that while the temperate decidous forest have 3 layers which is the same as the tropical rainforest, the 3 layers of a temperate decidous consists of a canopy, shrubs and smaller trees and the forest floor but the tropical rainforest consists of an emergent, a canopy and undergrowth. *********************************** ~As for the screwed up picture that u edited and asked the question: Can You Spot The Mistakes In The Picture?
This is my answer: The background of the picture shows a temperate coniferous forest while the middle shows cactus and the foreground shows sunflowers. ALl this 3 types of vegetation cannot exist together as they come from different vegetaion.
1)In photo A, The trees were grown in a hillside and are almost the same height in the row while Photo B were grown near the pond and allow the trees to grow well.
2)In my observation, it is winter and it is impossible to grow sunflowers.
Hi Mr Lim, I am Ang Man Ling from 104. My observations are that temperate deciduous forests are found in places that experience temperature ranging from -2 to 18 degrees Celsius and rainfall ranging from 750 to 1000 millimeters annually while tropical rainforests are found in places with tropical climate which experiences high temperature from 20 to 30 degree and high rainfall 100 to 2000 millimeters annually. Also, the trees at temperate deciduous have broad leaves that changes colours and fall off in autumn and they form the canopy, shrubs, smaller trees and forest floor. The appearance of the forests changes with the seasons, the forests is not very dense and it has only three or four varieties of trees while the tropical rainforests' trees are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with dips tips and the tress and other plants grow very close to one another which form the emergent, canopy and ungergrowth.
Photo A: temperate deciduous forest. The temperate deciduous forests generally consist of three layers. The top layer, or the canopy, is thickest during summer. As there is the most sunshine and the trees are full of leaves. The second layer is made up of shrubs and smaller trees. The third layer is made up grasses, mosses and ferns.
Photo B: tropical rainforest The tropical rainforest consists of three distinct layers. The first layer is called emergent where the trees often have buttress roots. The second layer is called canopy. And the third layer is called undergrowth that is made up of shrubs, grasses, mosses, ferns and fungi. The rainforest is denser than temperate deciduous forest as the trees and other plants grow very close to one another.
Yo Mr Lim.This is Orochimaru-sama from the village of the Sound...OK!OK!I'm Ruth from 103. My observations...0_0
The deciduous forests lose their leaves in Fall unlike the tropical forests which still have their leaves until September ends and even long after that. The Deciduous forests also have trees with bright and colourful leaves which are unlike the dull green leaves of our tropical forests.
The picture you put up is really fake. How I know...
1)Sunflowers can't grow with cactuses as they live in different parts of the world and require different conditions and soil to live in.
2)Er...no plants can live in the Snow without being frozen to death first.Only lichens and rare mosses can live there and sometimes, even THEY freeze to death.
This is Ororchimaru on his pet giant snake racing off to complete the rest of his homework before a teacher calls him up...
I am Man Ling, sorry because I forgot to answer the second question. My answer ish that the sunflowers and cactus are not suppose to appear in the picture as it is imposible to grow sunflowers and cactus during winter. The cactus are adapted to living in the deserts and is unable to live in the cold climates which the sunflowers are not adapted to the cold climates. It is usually seen growing in the warmer countries.
Temperate decidous forests are located in colder places than tropical rainforests. Temperate decidous rainforests-they have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn. Tropical rainforests-Trees are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips.
The cactus and sunflowers cannot grow in that kind of weather which is very cold. The cactus grows in places such as deserts. (Tan Meng Kiat, 103)
My observation about the differences is that in photo A, the trees have broad leaves that would change colours and fall off in autum. The trees form 3 distinct layers that are the canopy, shrubs and smaller trees and the forest floor. The forest is not as dense as the forest show in photo B. And the forest only has 3 to 4 types varities of trees.
In photo B,the trees and evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips. The trees also grow very closely with one another and they form 3 layers which are the emergent, canopy and the undergrowth.
Hence the differences are that the forest in photo B their leaves does not change colours and are always green in colour whereas the forest in photo A their leaves change colours and would fall off in autum. Another difference is that the trees in A are not so closely packed with one another while the trees in B are grown closely to one another.
In question 2, the mistake is that cactus and sunflowers do not grow in a cold climate, especially not in the snow.
My observations are that deciduous trees have broad leaves that change colours and they fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforests have evergreen, broad waxy leaves with drip tips.
Cactus and Sunflower cannot possibly live in snow.
I am a student from 103 and my name is Pua Zheng Jie. The deciduous forest have trees which have broad leaves that changes colours and fall off in autumn. The forest has only three to four varieties of trees which make it to be not very dense. The appearance of the forests changes with the seasons. The trees form canopy, shrubs and forest floor, compare to the rainforest in Brazil which has trees with broad waxy leaves with drip tips and they grow very closely to other plant and the trees' ;ayers are emergent, canopy and undergrowth which are very much different from the trees in deciduous forest.
The mistakes in the second slide are that cactus and sunflower could not grow and survive in the snow or during winter. Cactus grow in desert and require very little water while sunflowers grow during summer and spring where there is enough sunlight for them to carry out photosynthesis

Hi Mr. Lim, I'm Ang Yuan Teng(1) of 103 and I think it's a great idea to use blogging as a way to teach us.
For the first question, I observed that in Picture A the plants are not as closely packed and they all look similar to one another. However in Picture B there is a large variety of vegetation.
For the second question, there is absolutely no way a cactus and a sunflower could ever survive in such a cold climate. The cactus would have drowned because its roots could not breathe due to the large amount of rainfall. The sunflower also needs alot of sunlight to survive and you cannot expect to find alot of sunlight in a cold climate like this.
1)photo a and b shows some trees.photo a shows trees that are packed in a neat arrangement, and it has only a few varities.in addition to it, it also have broad leaves.photo b shows trees that are closely packed together without much gapping. It have broad waxy leaves with drip tips. 2)tihs photo is impossible. it is no way that cactus ans sunflowers could grow in such cold climate. they do not have addaptionds for cold climate. My observation are that temperature deciduous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while tropical rainforest are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips. The teperature deciduous forest is not very dense. The tropical rainforest have trees and plants that grow very close to one another.
The mistake is that cactus and sunflower cannot grow in the snow.
1. The differences between temperate deciduous forest and tropical rainforest is that temperate deciduous forest have broad leaves that fall off every year, while the tropical rainforest have broad waxy leaves with drip tips.
Second difference: Although both forms 3 layers, the layers that they form are different. Temperate deciduous forest forms the canopy, shrubs and smaller trees and forest floor. The tropical rainforest forms the emergent, canopy and undergrowth.
Third difference: In the temperate deciduous forest, the trees are grown further away from one another. In the tropical rainforest, the trees are grown closely together.
2. In the snow, the temperature is too low for the cactus and sunflowers to survive on. There is not enough sunlight and cactus are only adapted to a hotter climate.

Photo A is not densely packed as compared to Photo B. Photo Ais also quite "consistent" as the trees are almost the same height whereas Photo B shows that the heights of the trees defer.
Mistake: Catus is not able to grow in cold weather as they only grow and thrive in hot places like the desert. If sunflowers were to grow there, it would not still be as colourful as during in the spring. Instead, they should be in white or even withered already.
My observation is that in picture 1 there are only one type of tree, it is a temperate deciduous forest that have trees that are not packed together while in picture 2, there are many types of trees in the tropical rainforest and the trees and shrubs are packed together on the diffrent levels:emergent, canopy and the undergrowth. The temperate deciduous forest forms two layers, the canopy and the smaller shrubs, forming a 'gap' which is an empty area occupied by the trunks of the canopy.

(this comment may be the same as the previous one as we did it together.)
Q1)The differences between the two forests is that the temperate deciduous forest has broad leaves which change colour and fall off in autumn while the tropical rainforest have broad, waxy leaves with drip tips.
Q2)The mistake is that sunflowers and cacti do not grow during winter or in snow as they are not adapted to the cold.
Hey Mr Lim!Just in case you're wondering...I'm Orochimaru-sama...who couldn't remember his google password so you'll just have to find my identity in the previous blog.
THANKS for putting up the blog and one mistake...I thought that the sunflower picture was Antartica or something but it isn't.It's a countryside somewhere in Europe so it's not entirely true that no plants live there.Heh,heh,I forgot the trees beside the road...

* I did not mention about seasonal changes due to the fact that those were pictures and not clips. They show only a picture of a certain time and do not cover other seasons.
For the second question, I would agree as Ben. It's bad editing. The background and foreground blending isn't good and it's obvious that the cacti and sunflowers are just 'pasted ' upon the background of the tundra. No offense though.
Anyway, the cacti in the picture would not be able to survive as it will wither due to the fact that it's not adapted to absorb water through it's adapted roots and leaves to the desert. * The plant might explode . LOL. Water expands as it freezes.. so...* The sunflower, likewise, would not be able to live in the tundra.
Refer to the Slide below. What is/are your observation about the differences between the two type of natural vegetation?
My observation is that the temperature deciduous forest have broad leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforest are evergreen and have broad waxy leaves with drip tips. The teperature deciduous forest is not very dense. The tropical rainforest have trees and plants that grow very close to one another.
Refer to the picture in the Slide below. Can you spot the mistake/s? Please explain your observation.
My observation is that the cactus and the sunflower are impossible to grow in the snow.
I have read your comments at 3:10 p.m. today. I am very touched that all of you have put in effort to study the passage and make reflection. Many of you have put up good and relevant comment which in time to come, I will share with other teachers who are also thinking using as a mean of teaching & learning via cyber space. You may continue to post your comment, but just bear in mind that you have do self-test 5 which is to be handed in on Monday 20/8/07. Enjoy you weeked, Cheer!
1)The temperate deciduous forest has only one type of plant but the tropical rainforest has different types of plants.
The temperate deciduous forest is also not closely packed than the tropical rainforest.
2)The mistake is that cactus and sunflower cannot grow in the snow as they are not adapted to cold climates and make the environment too harsh for them to grow in and they will die if they grow in the cold climate.
For the first question, i noticed that the temperate deciduous forest is not very dense and has about three to four kinds of trees. I also noticed that the tropical rainforest is near water catchment area. The trees have broad leaves and are evergreen. They also grow close to each other. like the temperate deciduous forest, they form three distinct layers. one is the emergent, the other is the canopy and the last one is the undergrowth.
For question 2, i noticed that there are cactuses and sunflowers growing in the arctic which is not even possible to happen as it is too cold there for the cactuses and sunflowers to grow there.
I observe that the temperate dicidous forests have broad leaves that change colour depending on the season while the tropical rainforest has broad waxy leaves with drip tips. Another observation is that while the temperate decidous forest have 3 layers which is the same as the tropical rainforest. The 3 layers of a temperate decidous consists of a canopy, shrubs and smaller trees and the forest floor but the tropical rainforest consists of an emergent, a canopy and undergrowth.
For the second question, it is impossible that sunflowers and catus to grow in winter. It is also imposible as they are not adapted for such a cold climate.
Topic Review: Forests consist mainly of trees and a variety of other plants. Grasslands consist mainly of grasses, bushes and scattered trees. Desert vegetation consists mainly of sparse vegetation such as cacti, scrubs and tough grasses. There is a climate-vegetation relationship as rainfall and temperature determine the type of natural vegetation found in an area. Conservation of the rainforests means that these areas are set aside as nature reserves and protected by law. Natural vegetation refers to plants which have not been planted by people but which have grown by themselves naturaly.
I really learn a lot from the powerpoint slides and feel that this is an interesting and never-before experienced manner to study a subject!
For the first question, my observation is that the picture of the temperate deciduous forest has trees that are densely packed together and the trees have broad leaves that can change colour. However, the picture that shows a tropical rainforest have trees with broad waxy leaves with drip tips and the trees grow very close together.
Next, the mistake is that cactus and sunflowers cannot grow in that kind of climate where there is snow. Sunflowers can only survive in places where there is sunlight, like most other plants and cactus can only grow in deserts.
Question 1: The trees in the Tropical Rainforest are more densely packed than the trees in the Temperate Deciduous Forests.
The trees in the Tropical Rainforest are of different heights but the trees in the Temperate Deciduous Forests are almost of the same height.
The Tropical Rainforest is located in places with the temperature of 20 to 30 degrees celsius but the Temperate Deciduous Forests is located in places with the temperature of -2 to 18 degrees celsius.
Question 2: It is impossible for a cactus and a bunch of sunflowers to grow during winter, which is a cold climate. Cactus usually grow in hot places such as deserts while the bunch of sunflowers usually grow during summer and spring.
The differences: Photo A shows temperate deciduous forest but photo B shows a tropical rainforest. For photo A, the forest is not dense unlike Photo B.Smaller trees grow below. In Photo B, the trees grow on a hill. The tree trunks are thick with broad waxy leaves, forming a canopy. The trees grow closely together unlikethose in photoA which grow loose packs.
The Mistake:
Cactus and sunflowers do not grow in the harsh snowing weather. The cactus's needle like leaves are adapted to the hot weather, not the cold weather.Sunflowers cannot grow without light too.
Hello,Mr Lim, er..... Although is method is interresting, i still prefer you teaching because after reading, i still "blurblur". I notice that trees that grow in toprical rainforests tend to be very close to other plants. They also form three layers like emergent, canopy and undergrowth. Trees that grow in Temperature Deciduous Forests was not very dense like the toprical rainforests and in this kind of forests, they only have three or four kinds of trees. However, trees that grow in the Temperate Coniferous Forests are cone-shaped and evergreen. This kind of forest usually have one kind of trees and it only consists of one layer of natural vegetation with little undergrowth. In the first question, the trees in photo A is less dense than the trees growing on photo B. In the last question, the mistakes would be, there should be no sunflowers and catus, which need alot of sunlight and the right temperature growing in this climates. The sunflowers and catus will not able to grow in such as a cold weather or low temperture. That's the end. Anyway, this is Qiujin(6) from 103
My observation is that the trees in temperate deciduous forest loses its leaves annually in autumn but the trees in tropical rainforest do not and that there are many species of plants growing in the rainforest with medical properties but leeser species grow in the decidous forest.
Anothere thing is that the rainforest is thick but the decidous is denser
2) based ont he pictures the cacti and sunflowers cannot grow in this cold climate as they are not adapted to the climate.

Hi Mr. Lim!I am Koh Han Yan(4)from 103.
My observation is that the trees in temperate deciduous forest loses its leaves annually in autumn but the trees in tropical rainforest do not.
The mistakes in the picture is that it is not possible for cactus and sunflower to grow in the snow

That is all! BYE!

My Observation :
In Photo A,the trees in the forest is lest dense. The trees are also identical.
While the forest in Photo B is dense and has a variety of trees.
The Photo A's forest is more clearcut than forest in photo B as the layers are displayed clearly.
The Mistake :
The Sunflower are only able to grow in countries near the equater as there is usually sunlight all around the year but in the picture,it is impossible for the sunflower to grow in such a cold place where there is almost no sunlight. The cacti is grown in snowy place where there is a large amount of water. That is impossible too as the cactus can only be grown on deserts where there is less rainfall.
From Qian Qikai,104
The answer to the desert question is sunflowers cannot grow on a desert.

Testing so that I can post later
photo A's natural vegetation could adapt well in the open forest while photo B's natural vegetation grows near the water.
While for the second question, it impossible for catuses and sunflowers to grow during winter

My obsevation is that-
->in the tropical rainforests, the trees and other plants grow very close to one another, making the forest very dense.

(ps. i forgot to do question 2 in my earlier post)
It is impossible for cactus and sunflowers to grow during winter
as during winter, the weather is very cold and many plants cannot survive in the cold weather, thus it is not possible for them to be in that climate.
The sunflower and cactus cannot be growing in a harsh and cold environment.

hello mr lim
this is niketa from class 104
i would like to say that your slides have helped me understand the topic very well....
thank you for takin so much trouble and making these slides for us...

1) the trees in the aspen forest are of different sizes
the brazil rainforest has a swamp and there is a great variety of vegetation there
2) the sunflowers will not be able to suvive in a dessert as it is far too dry and warm for them. only the cacti will be able to survive as they are adapted to living in these harsh conditions.
Question one:

Q2)Both the sunflowers and the cautus should be growing on hot wethers and not on places that is snowing
Hi Mr Lim, I am Cindy Ong(6) from class 104.
Cheong Chong You(19) 104
Hi. I am Chua Jeng from 103
My observations are that the temperate deciduous forest have leaves that change colours and fall off in autumn, while the tropical rainforest have evergreen leaves and have waxy leaves with drip tips.
mistake is that the cactus and sunflower are impossible to gronw in the snow

Hi, i am Xin Kai from 106
Firstly, my observations are that the Aspen forest has a variety of tall and also short trees, while the tropical forest in Brazil consists of many different types of trees which may be growing on a hill, thus resulting in the trees having different heights.

I am Cao LeiLei (2) from 104.
Refer to the two slide of forest, my observation:
Photo A: temperate deciduous forest.
The temperate deciduous forests generally consist of three layers. The top layer, or the canopy, is thickest during summer. As there is the most sunshine and the trees are full of leaves. The second layer is made up of shrubs and smaller trees. The third layer is made up grasses, mosses and ferns.
Photo B: tropical rainforest
The tropical rainforest consists of three distinct layers.

Hi Mr Lim! I am Liu Jiayu(8)of 103.
Hi,Mr Lim. I'm Jason Ang from 103.

I am a student from 103 and my name is Pua Zheng Jie.
The deciduous forest have trees which have broad leaves that changes colours and fall off in autumn. The forest has only three to four varieties of trees which make it to be not very dense, compare to the rainforest in Brazil which has trees with broad waxy leaves with drip tips and they grow very closely to other plant, which is quite dense. The mistakes in the second slide are that cactus and sunflower could not grow and survive in the snow or during winter. Cactus grow in desert and require very little water while sunflowers grow during summer and spring where there is enough sunlight for them to carry out photosynthesis.
Hi Mr. Lim,
I'm Ang Yuan Teng(1) of 103 and I think it's a great idea to use blogging as a way to teach us.

Hi. I am Koh Wen Jie(24) from 103.

Mistake:
Catus is not able to grow in cold weather as they only grow and thrive in hot places like the desert. If sunflowers were to grow there, it would not still be as colourful as during in the spring. Instead, they should be in white or even withered already.

My observation is that in picture 1
there are only one type of tree, it is a temperate deciduous forest that have trees that are not packed together while in picture 2, there are many types of trees in the tropical rainforest and the trees and shrubs are packed together on the diffrent levels:emergent, canopy and the undergrowth. The temperate deciduous forest forms two layers, the canopy and the smaller shrubs, forming a 'gap' which is an empty area occupied by the trunks of the canopy.
For the second question, the answer is that it is not possible for the cactuses and sunflowers to grow in winter.

Hi Mr. Lim. I'll admit that I duplicated your blog.HAHA!

* I did not mention about seasonal changes due to the fact that those were pictures and not clips. They show only a picture of a certain time and do not cover other seasons.
Thank You
Gr... My previous post is meant to be a picture with words in it ( I forgot what it's called)... never mind...
Hey..Mr Lim. This is Quek Hui Yu(13) from 103.
My observation is that the cactus and the sunflower are impossible to grow in the snow.
u noe wat..
i tink this kind of teachin is quite good.
Dear Boys and Girls of BPGHS,
I have read your comments at 3:10 p.m.
Your geography teacher
1)The temperate deciduous forest has only one type of plant but the tropical rainforest has different types of plants.
The temperate deciduous forest is also not closely packed than the tropical rainforest.
2)The mistake is that cactus and sunflower cannot grow in the snow as they are not adapted to cold climates and make the environment too harsh for them to grow in and they will die if they grow in the cold climate.
Ang Jia Sheng(15)103
Dear Mr. Lim,
For the first question, i noticed that the temperate deciduous forest is not very dense and has about three to four kinds of trees.
Erm... Mr. Lim. I forgot to bring my Geography WB back so it's still in sch so can u postpone the deadline till the next tuesday??
Rodericks Ng Jun Siang(30) 103
Hi mr lim. I am Lee Han Zu(26) of 103.
Topic Review:
Forests consist mainly of trees and a variety of other plants.
Hello Mr.Lim. I am Rachel Koa(3)from 103.
This is Han Wen Siew(19) from Class 103.
Question 1:
The trees in the Tropical Rainforest are more densely packed than the trees in the Temperate Deciduous Forests.
Question 2:
It is impossible for a cactus and a bunch of sunflowers to grow during winter, which is a cold climate. Cactus usually grow in hot places such as deserts while the bunch of sunflowers usually grow during summer and spring.
1)The decidous temperate forest is made if canopy, shrubs n smaller tress while the tropical rainforest is made of emergent, canopy and undergrowth.
2) The sunflower is grown near the equator, while the cactus is grown in the desert
I am Peh Wee Sin from 103(10).
The differences:
Photo A shows temperate deciduous
forest but photo B shows a tropical rainforest.
Hello,Mr Lim,
er.....
Anyway, this is Qiujin(6) from 103
i am adelson teh 103
My observation is that the trees in temperate deciduous forest loses its leaves annually in autumn but the trees in tropical rainforest do not and that there are many species of plants growing in the rainforest with medical properties but leeser species grow in the decidous forest.
Anothere thing is that the rainforest is thick but the decidous is denser
2) based ont he pictures the cacti and sunflowers cannot grow in this cold climate as they are not adapted to the climate.
Teacher, can you tell me some effects of global warming?
